What is GIA?

Gemological Institute of America grades diamonds, they are the creators of the 4Cs and the independent, nonprofit diamond authority.  They operate independently of any commercial interests, ensuring that it’s diamond quality assessments are completely objective and unbiased.

If you want to know the quality of the diamond you’re considering – and you should, because quality and price go hand in hand – then you should look for GIA-graded diamonds and the diamond grading reports that will accompany them.

GIA certification required?

Unfortunately not all diamonds have been graded. Since this will be one of the larger purchases in your life, it is best to get a diamond that has been graded by GIA so that you know exactly what you are getting. This also helps when trying to get personal article insurance coverage for your ring.
